Ritual Variations’ features eight reworks of LA drone artist Robert Takahashi Crouch’s ‘A Ritual’, a 20-minute track from his 2021 album ‘Jubilee’. This eclectic collection really adds something new to the original composition, with imaginative rerubs coming from Lawrence English and Crouch’s own partner, Yann Novak, whose dank distortions on the ‘2C-D + Methylone Mix’ are indeed heady. Pick of the bunch is Marcus Fischer’s ‘Mirror Ritual’, an exquisite piece of sound design that morphs compellingly between celestial organ drifts and decaying sonics. ILS
