Then start with ‘Mahal’, his groove-laden seventh album. Bay Area-residing Bear infuses everything he does with a bit of California sun, and that trait continues here. ‘The Loop’ nods to the likes of The Isley Brothers and Sly Stone, but ‘Postman’ is where it’s really at, with a deliciously offbeat wonk that’s just so funky.
