These Southern Lands is Duncan Sutherland, a multi-instrumentalist and composer who splits his time between Glasgow and New York. With producer Kim Moore (aka WOLF) and musicians from Scottish street orchestra Nevis Ensemble, his debut album is a heartfelt meditation on climate change, full of “songs of love and loss on a dying planet”. Combining experimental electronics with classical and acoustic elements, the effects are stirring, from the yearning violin, birdsong and droning machines on ‘Lost For A Forest’, to the synthpop leanings of ‘Fun In Pink’ and ‘Hear Me’.
