Stimulator Jones ‘La Mano’ (Mutual Intentions)

A jazz lick here, some 80s synthfunk there, and a few dub vibrations for afters, ‘La Mano’ sees Virginian multi-instrumentalist Stimulator Jones wringing out his many influences. It’s an all-instrumental surprise second album from an artist whose debut span catchy choruses around 90s nostalgia pop, and so learning that nearly all playing here is credited to Jones leaves you slack-jawed. If you don’t suffer motion sickness, the guitar jaunts on the Wes Montgomery-esque ‘Chuck Taylor Strut’ to the echoes of King Tubby on ‘Prince Sammy’ make for one truly eclectic joyride.
