You’ll be pushed to find a more compellingly innovative or evocatively edgy electronic set in 2020 than this stunning debut from Hamburg soundtrack/theatre composer and club DJ Helena Ratke. Its rich, glowering tapestries of complex grooves, squalling cinematic washes and sinuous melodies topped with her vocals – Can-clipped for ‘On The Beach’, forebodingly dystopian on ‘Spacerine’ or used as a wordless instrument. She even picks up her sax to enhance the seething maelstrom of ‘Clouds’. Hopefully, more to come.
