Popcorn ‘Fiend Distance’ (Pure Moth)

The fusion of Magazine-esque guitars, sonorous Ian Curtis vocals and nerve-shredding industrial interventions a la Nitzer Ebb or Skinny Puppy, all help illustrate the attempt by Austria-based Scot Michael MacLennan to marry the sonic styles and political concerns  of the 1980s with current concerns (see also, ‘Remain’). Defining his own era may be a step too far, but – together with Chvrches’ engineer David R Simpson – this debut album is a satisfyingly retro set of industrial electro.
