Brussels-born brothers Jimmy and Noé Moens have taken their love of retro electronica and given it a psychedelic twist, largely inspired by trips to Istanbul and Tangiers in 2018. ‘Y Bab Adöy’ springs from a deep interest in Arab cultures and old Turkish B-movies, crossing over with American B-movies made by John Carpenter. Made with a DIY sparseness, tracks like the opener ‘Princess Maria’ are infused with cinematic ambition, and filmic samples permeate ‘Göktürk’, commingling in a charming mix of raw, acoustic percussion and analogue synths.
