Emeka Ogboh ‘Beyond The Yellow Haze’ (A-TON)

The work of Nigerian sound/installation artist Emeka Ogboh has seen him bring a stock market to the Tate Modern and soundscapes to an Egyptian bathroom, so it’s no surprise the sampled street life of Nigeria bursts with life on this debut album. Impatient car horns and hawking stallholders weave through blissed-out Sun Electric-style beats, the constant noise mirrored by thinly-sliced percussion. The slowly morphing programming on the Lionrock-ish ‘Everydaywehustlin’ is spine-tingling. To quote one of his installations, this ‘Lagos State Of Mind’ is a real head-nodder.
