Blue States ‘Nothing Changes Under The Sun’ (Memphis Industries)

Originally released in 2000, Memphis Industries are reissuing Andy Dragazis’ misplaced gem for its 20th anniversary. While there are similarities with early Boards Of Canada and the loungey end of trip hop, tagging it as such would be doing it a disservice. As similar records aimed for eeriness, powered by a wonky beat or the easy connotations of a fuzzy sample, ‘Nothing Changes Under The Sun’ opts for an optimism that’s so laid-back it’s almost horizontal. For example, ‘Spit And Soar’, which sounds like Bibio covering BOC’s ‘Sunshine Recorder’.
